Investment objective
The Oak Hill O’Connor Global Merger Arbitrage Fund seeks to generate consistently high risk-adjusted appreciation in the value of its assets while focusing on securities involving corporate actions. The Fund’s secondary goal is a differentiated return stream relative to global equity indices, with lower volatility. Substantially all of the Fund’s assets are invested through a master-feeder structure in O’Connor Global Merger Arbitrage Master Limited - a global merger arbitrage strategy managed by O’Connor Alternative Investments, LLC, part of Cantor Fitzgerald Asset Management.
Why investors consider this strategy
- Low beta and low historical correlation to traditional equity and bond allocations, with historical resilience during equity market downturns - diversification within a broader portfolio
- Access to a highly specialized merger arbitrage team, backed by decades of trading and risk management experience within the O’Connor and Cantor Fitzgerald alternatives platforms
Investment strategy
The Fund invests in announced mergers, tender offers and other corporate actions globally, seeking to capture the spread between a target’s share price and the deal consideration.
- Disciplined deal-grading and position-sizing framework used to manage individual transaction risk and limit exposure to any single deal
- Uses diversification and an options and market hedge overlay to help control portfolio-level risk
Key risks and considerations
- Merger arbitrage risk: the Fund could incur significant losses if proposed transactions are not consummated; deals can be prevented or delayed by regulatory, financing, shareholder and competitive factors
- The Fund’s investment program is speculative and entails substantial risks which may place capital at risk
- The Fund may use leverage, short sales, options and other derivatives, which can involve substantial volatility
